ANDERSON FIRE CONSULTANCY LTD
Unwanted Fire Alarm Signal Reduction Consultation

Within the workplace, fire alarm systems form a vital part of any fire safety strategy and remain one of the most effective ways to keep your business, staff, residents and customers safe from the effects of fire.

Unfortunately, most alarm signals are not actual fires but false alarms, often caused by factors such as cooking fumes, dust and lack of maintenance. These signals often lead to fire crews being called out unnecessarily.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responds to an average of 28,479 unwanted fire alarms each year. With two fire appliances attending on average for each alarm, that results in approximately 57,000 unnecessary blue light journeys every year.

False alarms also cause business disruption that affects customer service and productivity levels. If they happen regularly, occupants can become complacent with slower action times or people refusing to act. This could have serious consequences where a genuine fire was to occur.

Thankfully, there is a lot that can be done to reduce false alarms and it is part of your legal responsibility under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 to do so.

At Anderson Fire Consultancy we can assist your business through the undertaking of a bespoke Unwanted Fire Alarm Signal Reduction Survey specific for your premises, and we will continue to work through a reduction strategy to ensure unwanted fire alarm signals are greatly reduced or a thing of the past. We offer this unique service throughout Dumfries and Galloway, all parts of Scotland and most of England and Wales.

NOTE: From 1st July 2023, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service no longer attend automatic fire alarm (AFA) call outs to commercial business and workplace premises, such as factories, offices, shops and leisure facilities - unless a fire has been confirmed. Therefore, you should ensure that your alarm system is operating as it should do. Complacency could lead to damage to property, complete loss of property, or loss of life to occupants and customers.
